I went to the Roller Derby for the first time last night: The Mad Hatters vs The Rocky Horrors.
In the beginning, I didn’t understand a single thing that was happening, but after a while I started to get the hang of it, and it became pretty exciting. I couldn’t tell who was winning, but it didn’t matter. It looked evenly matched to me, though The Mad Hatters won by a fair bit.
At the end, my friend Roxanne (you remember Roxanne? My Friend Roxanne said) won the Most Valuable Player award.
She had a C drawn onto her arm, and her husband said: What’s the C for, Rox?
She looked at him and said: The C is for Captain, Adam, I am the Captain.
Have you ever been tempted (against your better judgement) to watch one of those facebook videos that say something like: Watch this dog it’s HILARIOUS!! Or: What this girl does next is AMAZING!! Or: The end of this video will really surprise you!! And after you watch it you think: what was so hilarious/amazing/surprising about that?
Last Sunday I went for a walk along the beach, from Grey’s to Back Beach.
When I got to Back Beach, there was some sort of surfing carnival going on, with lots of people milling around. It was about 1.30, and it looked like it was winding up. I had to walk through quite a few people to get to the Hadda Way path; as I did so, I passed a couple of streaked- blond headed kids, with beanies and trackies on. One was about 10, and the other about 12.
The younger one turned to the other and said: So, how’s the economy? The older one answered: Pretty good, but there’s a few black spots.
Ok, ok, I understand that Phoebe looks about a googolplex (I’ve just read Jonathan Safran Foer’s Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close) better than I do, but try (for the good of the herd) putting that aside. If you can.
I have to make up my mind pretty soon about next winter’s collection: do I do jodhpurs? or drunken sailor pants?
I’ve been thinking about them lately, so I decided to make a pair and trial them.
I’ve worn them to a lot of places, and they’re really fun to wear.
They need a small top to go with them, and I also thought of a short swing jacket, so I made one of those, too. I so love it. And they feel just great together.
Both of them are made of a double knit stretch fabric, but two different sorts, so they are quite solid and warm. There are two sets of buttons on the jacket, so it can be worn open, closed loosely, or closed tightly.
The jodhpurs are fairly long, so can be worn a little draped around the ankles, or rolled up.
I’m thinking they could be going onto next winter’s collection agenda.
